Lewiston is Maine’s second largest city and is located on the banks of the Androscoggin River. Lewiston and neighboring City of Auburn form the business and cultural center of Androscoggin County. Life Flight medical helicopters complement world-class health care providers, manufacturers, financial institutions, and telecommunications. Lewiston is the home of nationally ranked Bates College, the University of Southern Maine’s L/A College, and Kaplan University, as well as a dynamic pre-K through 12 school system. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) MAINEiacs hockey team, area golf courses, seasonal festivals, acclaimed restaurants, various shopping options, and walking trails are also available. Known as one of America’s 100 best small arts communities, The Public Theater, Olin Arts Center, L/A Arts, and Franco-American Heritage performing arts center represent only a sampling of such options. Inc. Magazine has listed Lewiston-Auburn in its top 100 “Best Places for Doing Business in America,” and the National Civic League designated Lewiston as an “All-America City” in 2007. Lewiston also received a 2006 “Outstanding Achievement City Livability Award” from the United States Conference of Mayors. Lewiston’s vitality, cultural richness, and diversity are reasons the area was also selected as the national headquarters of the Forum Francophone des Affaires, an international trade group of French-speaking nations.
