Livermore is a small, rural town situated in the western hills of Maine on the west bank of the Androscoggin River. Originally named Port Royal, because it was granted by Massachusetts to certain persons for services in the French and Indian War in the expedition against Port Royal, Nova Scotia, the name was changed in honor of the first settler and largest proprietor, Deacon Elijah Livermore.
