After a fire destroyed several stores, leading citizens decided to construct "the best opera house east of Boston." Back in those days people paid 50 cents to a dollar in order to view such operas as "Maritana" and " Rose of Castile" (performed by the Boston English Opera Company). For only 35 cents one could have seen the comedy "Married Life" performed by the Metropolitan Company. However, after the 1930's Music Hall was only used occasionaly. In the early years of the 1960's it was gutted to create storage space for a plumbing and heating supply store.
