Osgoods Building: 129 Lisbon

A Walking Tour of Downtown Lewiston, Maine

by William Karz, Bates College

Information provided by National Register.

The building is architecturally significant as a work of noted local architect, Jefferson Coburn, an architect known for his eclectic styling. This building, and the adjoining McGillicuddy Block, are the only two commercial structures by Coburn surviving. Moreover, the Osgood Block employs white brick imported from Leeds, England. No other example of the use of such brick is known in Maine.
